Issues explored
Anxiety – counselling is a way for you to acknowledge the stresses and strains of your life and to work out a way forward, to manage your anxiety and to begin to feel better. Anxiety is often a symptom of something else going on beneath the surface, so therapy offers a way to explore that. CBT techniques can help with anxiety too.
Bereavement – I’ve experienced bereavement and I recognise how shattering it can be when you lose someone close. Counselling can help you to start to come to terms with this significant change in your life. Talking to someone about a person you’ve lost, can be a very powerful process.
Confidence – if you feel lacking in confidence, or low in self-esteem, counselling can be a way to explore your life and outlook, and to recognise that some old patterns can be changed. As a first step, counselling can be a chance to look at what has happened to lead you to feeling lacking in confidence.
Depression – Depression can be debilitating. Talking therapy has proven benefits for depression and melancholy, and just talking to someone about it can result in a change of feeling. Similar to anxiety, depression can often be a symptom of other things.
Relationships – I have experience of working with people who have undergone changes in relationships and I can walk alongside you as you process the difficulties that come from this. One of the issues I have worked with has been coercive control. You may want to talk about a romantic relationship or a relationship with a family member, friend or colleague.
Sexuality – I have a lot of experience working with clients who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. As a gay man, I bring my own life experiences to this subject.
